Untitled

Jackie joined the Yellowstone County Master Gardener program in 2000. In 2002 she became a lifetime member by graciously taking on the duty of monthly meeting note taker/secretary. She put her writing and journaling skills together to not only elegantly report the basic meeting minutes, but to also educate. (She was an English teacher for 35 years.) She would do extra research, and plug into our meeting notes, tips and bits of horticulture related information, as well as poetry she loved (some she wrote herself). She faithfully gave of her time in this way, even up till the month of July, a month before she passed away. It wasn’t until she was hospitalized that any of us were made aware of the seriousness of her health condition.

Jackie left us August 31, 2005 the cruel result of invasive breast cancer. She is survived by husband Ron Bradshaw and daughter Amy Frances Bradshaw.

To honor her memory, the Master Gardeners dedicated and planted a Council Bur Oak, on September 16, 2005, at ZooMontana, located in Billings Montana. About 50 people came to honor and remember Jackie and her touch in their lives. She was a delightfully witty, creative and generous lady, with a warm and gentle spirit. She will be missed by the Yellowstone County Master Gardeners for some time to come.

Gardening Tips - By Jackie Bradshaw

Plant three rows of peas:
Peas of mind
Peas of heart
Peas of soul,

Plant four rows of squash:
Squash gossip
Squash indifference
Squash grumbling
Squash selfishness,

Plant four rows of lettuce:
Lettuce be faithful
Lettuce be kind
Lettuce be happy
Lettuce really love one another,

No garden should be without turnips:
Turnip for service when needed
Turnip to help one another
Turnip the music and dance,

Water freely with patience, nourish with love
And cultivate with kindness.
Your garden will bloom and be fruitful
Because you reap what you sow.

To conclude our garden we must have thyme:
Thyme for God, for work on the job and at home
Thyme for family, for friends, for fun
Thyme for ourselves, for silence, for reflection
