"The Mission of the Yellowstone County Weed Department is to assist the public, private, and other government agencies to manage and control existing noxious weed infestations as well as to prevent new invasive species from infesting Yellowstone County. Using integrated weed management approaches; educational, biological, chemical, cultural and mechanical methods, this “Mission” can be accomplished."
Noxious Weeds are non-native plants that have become established or that may be introduced in the state. These Noxious Weeds may render land unfit for agriculture, forestry, livestock, wildlife, or other beneficial uses. These plants are designated as “Noxious” by rule of the Montana Department of Agriculture or as a District Noxious Weed by the Yellowstone County Weed Board.

Russian Olive Removal
Seventeen acres of Russian Olive trees in Two Moon Park, along the Yellowstone River have been removed. The Russian Olive trees were pushing out the Cottonwoods and Willows and threatening the habitats along the river corridor. This project is in joint effort with the Yellowstone River Conservation District, Yellowstone Count Weed Department, the Parks Department, the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation. Two Moon Park was intended to be a natural area of enjoyment.
Saltcedar
With the help of the 2007 Noxious Weed Trust Fund Grant, and the Yellowstone County Weed Department , we are putting forth an effort to treat and monitor Saltcedar (and other noxious weed species) along the Yellowstone River. This is an attempt to reduce the spread of Saltcedar into the riparian areas of the main Yellowstone River corridor. It is our hope that by doing this, it will allow the native plant species along the Yellowstone River to better compete for future establishment, and enhance the ecological integrity of the riparian areas
Pesticide Container Recycling (.pdf)
This was created to keep pesticide containers out of Montana’s landfills. At the Weed District location, 3319 King Avenue East, there is a recycling trailer that is available for container drop off. Either bring your triple rinsed jugs to this location, or if you have a large amount of containers, the trailer can be brought to your location.
